Colonoscopy Patient Awarded $500,000 for Defamation & Malpractice

/ / Blog

A Virginia man used his smart phone to make an audio recording of his doctors pre-op/post-op instructions going into a colonoscopy procedure, however, the recording did not end there. As the man underwent anesthesia, the smart phone continued to record the goings on of the procedure, during which the anesthesiologist and doctor ridiculed the patient and added a false diagnosis to his medical records. Much to the patient’s surprise, he heard the negative comments made by the medical professionals he trusted and decided to sue. He was awarded $500,000 for defamation and medical malpractice after a 3-day trial.
