Last month, a patient being treated for depression at a Florida hospital was strangled to death by another patient who was staying in the same room. The roommate has since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, while the hospital is being sued for psychiatric medical malpractice. The lawsuit against the hospital in which the murder occurred alleges that the institution was negligent for not checking on the patients more regularly. Additionally, the plaintiff claims the murder would not have taken place had the hospital issued proper security when placing the deceased patient in a room with another patient who had an extensive and violent criminal record.
