Illinois Law to Permit Camera Monitoring in Nursing Homes

IL cameras in nursing homes

Illinois law will soon allow security cameras to be installed in nursing home rooms, as the aging population rises. Lisa Madigan, Illinois Attorney General, says many families of those living in nursing home facilities have come to her with reports of elderly abuse and neglect. The installation of cameras in these individuals’ rooms will give their families peace of mind, as they will hold nursing home communities accountable for a higher standard of care. The law will go into effect January 2016. Nursing home rooms with cameras must have roommate consent and will be labeled, “this room is electronically monitored.”
